What we do for you

So, your work is done. Your book is finished. Your plot is carefully defined and developed, your characters are lovingly created and convey compelling personality, your scene-setting is thoughtfully composed, and your writing style is honed to powerfully deliver your story. Just one step remains: Placing your hard work in the hands of professionals for thorough and meticulous editing before submission to a publisher.

Since you’re here, you understand the value of comprehensive editing and how crucial it is to successfully publishing your book and getting it in front of readers.

Our goal is to become your partner in that effort. We proofread, copy edit, and content edit your book to make certain it meets your satisfaction and the expectations of your publisher. We accept hard copy as well as electronic files. And we also promise to protect your confidentiality and your work. Two professional editors will carefully polish your work, an important element of our commitment to the quality that your book deserves. Few book editing services can make that promise. We make that vow because we want your book to succeed, and we view ourselves as your ally in that effort.

Editors are not miracle workers, but good ones are pretty darn close. Editors can’t guarantee that a publisher will accept your work. But we will work with you to provide the advantage you need to offer a well-edited, carefully crafted manuscript. Editors can’t rescue a hopelessly obscure plot that lurches from one chapter to the next, or a manuscript that leaves its characters groping helplessly for definition and personality.

Editors can, however, help you shape your work by eliminating typos, spelling errors, and grammar miscues. Editors can assist in steering your work toward consistency in clarity of style, dialogue, and the use of precise language. And, most important, editors can be your trusted ally in pulling all the elements of your work into a cohesive, logical, well-defined manuscript that you can offer a publisher with confidence and authority.

We follow the principles of “The Chicago Manual of Style” and “The Associated Press Stylebook.” We are also fans of “The Elements of Style” by William Strunk Jr. and E.B. White, and “The Word” by Rene “Jack” Cappon.

These are the specific services we offer:

  • Proofreading. We will correct typos, spelling and punctuation errors.
  • Copy editing. We will correct typos, spelling, and punctuation errors, as well as grammar and word usage. We will recommend improvements in consistency, tone, and continuity issues.
  • Content editing. We will focus on structure, style, and content. We also will address pacing, plot inconsistency, awkward dialogue, character development, style, and imprecise writing.
